EPA recently award almost $71 million in brownfields grants to redevelop former industrial and commercial sites throughout the country. Region 2's piece of the action includes money for communities in New Jersey, New York, and Puerto Rico.
In New Jersey:
Trenton will receive $200,000 to assess local brownfields sites impacted by petroleum contamination.
Atlantic City, Mantua, and the Middlesex County Improvement Authority will receive $200,000 each to assess local brownfields sites impacted by hazardous substances contamination.
In New York:
Geneva will receive $200,000 to clean up contamination at 305 Main Street.
New York City will receive two grants totaling $400,000 to assess local brownfields sites impacted by hazardous substances and petroleum contamination.
Rensselaer will also receive two grants totaling $400,000 to assess local brownfields sites impacted by hazardous substances and petroleum contamination.
Rochester will receive two grants totaling $400,000 to assess local brownfields sites impacted by hazardous substances contamination and to clean up contamination at the former Phototech Imaging Systems site.
Youngstown will receive $200,000 to clean up contamination at the Youngstown Cold Storage site.
In Puerto Rico:
Cataño and Mayagüez will receive $200,000 each to assess local brownfields sites impacted by petroleum contamination.
San Germán will receive two grants totaling $400,000 to assess local brownfields sites impacted by hazardous substances and petroleum contamination.
