TRI Region 1 Snapshot

The 2006 TRI data are in, and the downward trend in New England continues. Four of the six Region 1 states posted pollution reductions for 2006. Releases in Connecticut and Vermont were up from 2005 releases.

State data breakdown of total on- and off-site releases:

  • Connecticut. Facilities reported 4,927,560 pounds of chemicals released, a slight increase from the 4,849,077 pounds released in 2005.
  • Maine. Total releases in 2006 were 10,552,141 pounds, a drop from the 11,516,199 pounds reported for 2005.
  • Massachusetts. Facilities reported 6,969,912 pounds released, down slightly from the 7,637,783 pounds released in 2005.
  • New Hampshire. Total releases in 2006 were 4,173,403 pounds, down from the 2005 total of 5,256,977 pounds.
  • Rhode Island. Total releases in 2006 were 498,668 pounds, down from the 601,744 pounds released in 2005.
  • Vermont. Releases in 2006 totaled 604,304 pounds, up from the 425,114 pounds released in 2005.
