TRI Region 4 Snapshot

The 2006 TRI data are in, and seven of the eight Region 4 states posted pollution reductions from 2005. Toxic chemical releases increased only in Mississippi.

State data breakdown of total on- and off-site releases:

  • Alabama. In 2006, facilities in Alabama reported 121,070,327 pounds (lb) of chemicals released, down from the 122,888,800 lb released in 2005.
  • Florida. Total releases in 2006 were 119,400,281 lb, down over 10 million lb from the 129,866,857 lb reported for 2005.
  • Georgia. Facilities reported 129,762,605 lb released, down from the 130,424,788 lb released in 2005.
  • Kentucky. Total releases in 2006 were 97,124,801 lb, down from the 2005 total of 102,888,597 lb.
  • Mississippi. Total releases in 2006 were 60,760,796 lb, up from the 58,618,046 lb released in 2005.
  • North Carolina. Releases in 2006 totaled 134,094,779 lb, down from the 139,459,424 lb released in 2005.
  • South Carolina. Facilities reported 75,328,907 lb released, down slightly from the 2005 total of 75,927,679 lb.
  • Tennessee. Total releases in 2006 were 131,417,536 lb, over 12 million lb less than the 143,793,237 lb released in 2005.
