The 2006 TRI data are in, and five of the six Pacific Southwest states posted pollution reductions from 2005. Toxic releases in Arizona were up from 2005, while American Samoa and Nevada posted significant drops.
State data breakdown of total on- and off-site releases:
Arizona. Facilities reported 98,599,412 pounds (lb) of chemicals released, up from the 64,878,470 lb released in 2005.
American Samoa. Total releases in 2006 were 5 lb (not counting fugitive emissions), down significantly from the 1,705 lb (includes fugitive air emissions) reported for 2005.
California. Facilities reported 42,978,718 lb released, down from the 43,703,807 lb released in 2005.
Hawaii. Total releases in 2006 were 3,019,263 lb, a negligible change from the 2005 total of 3,106,186 lb.
Nevada. Total releases in 2006 were 217,099,056 lb, a significant drop from the 326,136,120 lb released in 2005.
Guam. Releases in 2006 totaled 206,772 lb, down from the 238,371 lb released in 2005.
