The Merced, California, facility of an international, multibillion-dollar industrial packaging corporation was fined $9,412 for alleged multiple violations of federal hazardous waste regulations.
Products manufactured by the company include steel, plastic, fiber, and corrugated and multiwall containers and protective packaging for many industries.
EPA reported that a January 2007 inspection found the Merced facility in violation of five hazardous waste requirements:
- Failure to comply with labeling requirements for containers of hazardous wastes,
- Storing hazardous waste in open containers,
- Failure to properly maintain a hazardous waste facility,
- Failure to comply with air emissions standards for hazardous waste containers, and
- Failure to maintain a complete contingency plan.
According to EPA, the facility has corrected the violations.
