DOT Proposes Increase in Fuel Efficiency Standards
Under a new U.S. DOT proposal, fuel efficiency standards for both passenger vehicles and light trucks would increase by 4.5 percent per year over the 5-year period ending 2015--a 25 percent total improvement that exceeds the 3.3 percent baseline proposed by Congress last year.

Refinery Agrees to Spend Millions to Upgrade Pollution Controls
A Utah refiner has agreed to spend more than $17 million in new and upgraded pollution controls and pay a $120,000 civil penalty. The settlement, which resolves alleged violations of the Clean Air Act, is expected to reduce air pollution by more than 420 tons of harmful emissions annually.
