To Fuel or Not to Fuel!

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) has posted an online list of 140 facilities that have one or more underground storage tanks (USTs) that are prohibited from receiving product. If a facility appears on the list, it is illegal to deliver or to accept delivery of product to any of the USTs at a facility on this list.

DHEC may classify a UST as ineligible for delivery, deposit, or acceptance of product if the Department determines that the UST tank owner/operator is not in compliance with leak detection, spill, overfill, corrosion protection, financial responsibility, and any other conditions DHEC deems appropriate. A UST may also be classified as ineligible if the UST owner/operator has not renewed its annual UST registration.

DHEC must notify the owner/operator of the Department's intent to declare the tank ineligible for delivery if the deficiency is not corrected within 7 calendar days.

DHEC will post the delivery prohibition notice on its website and affix the notice to the fill port of the affected tank. Entries to the list will be deleted on the same working day that delivery prohibition is lifted.

The list may be viewed on DHEC’s website at http://www.scdhec.gov/environment/lwm/html/prohibit_delivery.asp.
