Regulatory Analysis

The purpose of the Clean Air Act is to protect public health and the environment. Mandates include requirements for cleaner burning power plants and automobiles, control of fugitive emissions of hazardous air pollutants, fuel efficiency, and other requirements. CAA established minimum standards for specific pollutants. Geographic areas are categorized on the basis of their level of attainment of these standards. Sources of air pollution are regulated on the basis of the attainment status of their location.
