National Summary
A hazardous waste container is simply defined as a portable device. The RCRA definition is intentionally broad to encompass all different types of portable devices. Fifty-five-gallon drums and barrels are two common types of containers, but a container can also be a tanker truck, railroad car, small bucket, or test tube. Container regulations cover waste compatibility, container condition, leak and spill prevention, labeling, inspections, air emissions, containment systems, and empty container standards.
