Corrective Action

National Summary
Owners and operators of hazardous waste treatment, storage, and disposal facilities are responsible for cleaning up all nonpermitted releases of hazardous waste. This remediation process is referred to as corrective action. Corrective action rules apply to both hazardous waste and solid (nonhazardous) waste. The corrective action program covers monitoring and sampling procedures for detecting a release. Once a release of hazardous waste is detected, corrective action measures must be implemented.
