The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) administers the rules and regulations that protect, preserve, and clean up the air, waterways, and land of the United States. If you generate, transport, treat, store, or dispose of hazardous waste you will also need to be in compliance with federal EPA regulations. To make sure you are in compliance with EPA's rules, the Environmental Protection Agency delegates much of the responsibility to its regional offices. There are 10 EPA regions and every state has been assigned to a specific EPA region.
Who needs an EPA ID number? If you generate, transport, recycle, treat, store, or dispose of hazardous waste, you are required to notify EPA (or a state agency with an approved hazardous waste program) and you must obtain an EPA ID number.
