National Summary
EPA regulates the export of hazardous wastes from the United States and the import of hazardous wastes to the United States. In general, exporters must--in addition to complying with RCRA's transporter and generator rules--notify EPA prior to shipment, obtain an EPA Acknowledgment of Consent form, and comply with special manifest and reporting requirements. Importers of hazardous waste are treated as generators. They must follow generator requirements in addition to a specific set of EPA regulations.
