Incineration

National Summary EPA recognizes incineration as a method of waste disposal. An incinerator is an enclosed device that either uses controlled flame combustion and is not a boiler, sludge dryer, or a carbon regeneration unit, or meets the definition of an infrared or plasma arc incinerator. Industrial furnaces are other types of combustion units that burn hazardous waste, though they are not considered incinerators.
