New Source Review

National Summary The 1977 Clean Air Act Amendments (CAAA) expanded a federal permitting program called New Source Review (NSR) to help both nonattainment and attainment areas clean up or maintain air quality. Each state must include air quality permitting requirements that meet the standards of the federal program in its SIP to attain or maintain the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS).
