Bioassays and Biomonitoring

National Summary
Biomonitoring is the term used to describe a broad category of monitoring methods used to test the toxicity of the wastestream flowing from wastewater treatment plants. Biological monitoring may be required to demonstrate compliance with toxicity standards or to substantiate a request for relief from some wastewater treatment standards. Bioassays are a common type of biological monitoring that may be required as a method of measuring water quality to determine compliance with discharge limits.
