Release Notification

National Summary
Timely reporting of hazardous substance releases is required under federal law. Responsible facilities or employees may incur substantial penalties for failure to report certain spills. An initial release notification is usually required immediately or within 24 hours of knowledge of the release. In some cases, follow-up written reports and public notification are also required. It is important to establish a release response program that addresses all appropriate release reporting requirements.
